Doula 101 with Richmond Doulas

Although this is a FREE event, you must RSVP by calling Clover at 804-355-3517 or emailing info@cloverkids.com.

Are you on the hunt for a Birth Doula? Or maybe you're thinking about hiring a Birth Doula but don't know where to start. We invite you to learn about the roles of a Birth Doula and Postpartum Doula and why a doula may be an essential part of your birth plan.

The greek word "doula" means “a woman who serves.” Doula now refers to a professional who provides education and advocacy during pregnancy, birth, and the immediate postpartum period, on-call services 24/7 in late pregnancy, and reasonably continuous physical and emotional support during labor.

A postpartum doula provides expertise on feeding, postpartum adjustment, overnight and newborn care, and logistical, household, and sibling support to help ease the transition into parenthood for new and experienced parents alike.

This meeting offers you an intimate setting to talk to doulas one on one and ask questions to help you create the best birth team for you and your partner.

We look forward to seeing you!

Richmond Doulas is a nonprofit organization of independent doulas that serves to promote and support the work of birth and postpartum doulas in the Greater Richmond area.

Postpartum Health: It’s Not Just About A Kegel (Back by Popular Demand!)

Although this class is FREE, space is limited. Please RSVP to info@cloverkids.com or call 804-355-3517 to reserve your spot.

Pregnancy and childbirth take a heavy toll on our bodies. Have you noticed any of these physical changes since childbirth:

  • urinary leakage when you sneeze or laugh
  • leakage during exercise
  • painful intercourse
  • fullness in the pelvis
  • pelvic, back or vaginal pain
  • constipation
  • diarrhea

These conditions are not a mom's "new normal." They could be signs of pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD), which affects 50% of women. But there's good news! Easy solutions exist (NOT Poise pads!) to help correct these annoying and embarrassing health issues.

Mary Anne Snavely is the Owner and President of Pelvic Health Systems. As a mom who had PFD, she'll discuss why it's important to seek help early, the long-term risks if PFD is ignored and what you can do (beyond kegels) to get your pelvic floor muscles back in shape.

Located in Midlothian, Pelvic Health Systems services include PFT Health Coaching, personal training, group training, awareness lectures and workshops provided by certified PFT Health Coaches.

Cloth Diapering 101

RSVP at info@cloverkids.com or call Clover at 804-355-3517. This workshop is FREE.

This is an ongoing, workshop we host the second Wednesday of the month.

Stephanie Keys is the mom of two young boys and is our local cloth guru. She also leads the Cloth Diapering RVA group on Facebook.

In this workshop, you'll learn the benefits of cloth, the types of diapers available and how to create your diaper stash (new vs. used, rental options, etc.). You'll get advice on the basics you truly need so you won't blow your budget.

Stefanie covers simple, fail-proof laundering techniques, detergent do's and don'ts and practical accessories. Plus you'll discuss real-life scenarios, like what you'll need when leaving the house and what to do if your baby needs a medicated diaper cream.

We'll have different types of diapers, detergents and accessories on hand for you to review. Stefanie loves answering questions, so come with your list!
